Slack
Updated May 14, 2026 · FinityAi
Slack is where many teams already chat. In FinityAi, you link your Slack user to your hosted account so DMs with the FinityAi app use the same identity as the web assistant. You can connect with Slack OAuth when your workspace supports it, or paste your member id and complete a one-time code in the app DM.
What you need in Slack
- The FinityAi Slack app must be installed in your workspace. If DMs fail, open a DM with the FinityAi app first—messages come from the app, not a personal user.
- Your Slack member id (starts with U) when you use the id + code path. See Slack's member id help.
- Permission to approve or install apps if your workspace restricts installs—OAuth may require an admin the first time.
Connect in FinityAi
- Sign in to FinityAi, open Integrations, and use the Slack card to reach settings.
- Open Integrations → Slack.
- Prefer Connect with Slack when OAuth is available; otherwise paste your member id, send the link request, then complete the step in Slack.
- Use Disconnect on the integration page when you want to remove the link on our side.
Reply with the code only
For the manual path, the FinityAi app sends a short code. Open the DM from the app and send one message containing only the code—no greeting, emoji, or extra text—so FinityAi can match it reliably.
Assistant: tools in Slack
Tool use in Slack follows the same rules as the web assistant: enable apps and tools in chat settings, and keep integrations turned on under Integrations.
- Open the Assistant on the web if you need to adjust model or tool toggles.
- Confirm the integration status card on Integrations → Slack shows the assistant API and your Slack link healthy.
New to chat settings? See the Assistant user guide.
Sample prompts
Examples you can adapt; actual tools depend on your plan and connections.
- “Summarize what we discussed in this DM thread in three bullets.”
- “Draft a short reply I can paste to my teammate about tomorrow’s deadline.”
- “What tools do I have enabled right now for this chat?”
- “Check my email for anything urgent from today and list subject lines.”
- “Add a task to my personal list: follow up with finance by Friday.”
If something fails
- Cannot DM the app — Install the app in the workspace, open the app's profile, and start a DM. Some orgs require admin approval first.
- Code not accepted — Send the code alone in one message; request a fresh code from the integration page if it expired.
- Tools missing in Slack — Compare tool toggles with the web assistant; confirm Integrations shows the link and API healthy.
Official Slack links
Use these for workspace policy, member ids, and OAuth details outside FinityAi.
- Create a link to a member's profile (member id)Slack Help Center.
- Slack OAuth (developer)How bot tokens and installs work.
